Young at ARt
Look for the colorful pink banners to find the Young at ARt Student Exhibition, featuring the best artwork from students throughout Pinellas County. Founded by Gregory H. Fisher, a local attorney and long-time member of the Mainsail Board of Directors, student artwork is juried from hundreds of pieces of artwork submitted by teachers from public and private schools. Certificates of Merit are presented to all student participants and a total of 24 outstanding entries are recognized for outstanding artwork for grades K-12.
Ribbons for 2 Young Master Awards as well as 13 Awards of Excellence and 13 Honorable Mentions will be announced during the Mainsail Festival at the main stage, located in the south end of Vinoy Park (near the Truth Sculpture), on Saturday at 11 am. Scholarships sponsored by Mahaffey Apartment Company and Raymond James have been presented as the Young Masters Awards, in conjunction with the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, a national competition started in 1923 for high school students. Two 12th grade students in the Pinellas County school system have been awarded a $1,000 cash scholarship each, to further their art education. A Gold Key Portfolio of some of their outstanding work will be exhibited at Mainsail’s Young at ARt tent.

How to Submit an Entry
The Pinellas County School Board places all Calls for Entries for county-wide art exhibitions on the Art Calendar page for the school year (look for show due dates, then click to find download link) or you may view the PDF HERE. Charter school art teachers log into the district online system (Art Database) to make their student entries and upload artwork images. Private school art teachers do not have access to the Art Database, so they have to complete a PDF student entry form and email those entry forms, with their students’ artwork images, to the Visual Arts Coordinator, Ted LoCascio. The private school student entry forms (with directions written on the entry forms) are on the Art Calendar page of the Visual Arts website at this address: https://www.pcsb.org/Page/20203 .
After the artwork judging for the show, the Visual Arts Office notifies all art teachers (private, charter, and public) with accepted student artwork. Everyone then delivers the work to the Pinellas County Schools Administration Building in Largo. They check in everything and pack everything up to bring down to Mainsail for display!
